Why is the Heat Pump Dripping Water?

Why is the Heat Pump Dripping Water?

We all love a cozy temperature at our home and that means we even use heat pumps during extremely low temperatures. Even when you get the best quality unit of heat pumps, it can still end up showing some symptoms or signs of failure. They are more prone to leak. Heat pumps help the house to be cool during the summers but also keeps the house warm during winters. It is similar to the HVAC system.

Heat pumps work by transferring the heat out of the home during summers and into the home during winters with the help of a refrigerant. Thus, there can be many problems that lead to the leakage of the heat pumps.

Causes of Leakage in Heat Pump

Drain Problems
Heat pumps have a drain pan that collects the condensation from the respective unit. And, if by any chance this pan is clogged with molds, debris, or algae, it can overflow and create a puddle around the camp. If the drain gets clogged, it ends up causing a leak. And, in such a case, the unit shuts off automatically even before this happens.

Frozen Evaporator Coils
During summers, the unit might experience a low level of refrigerant in the cooling oils. And, this disturbs the cooling process, thus preventing the heat pump from working efficiently. Low refrigerant levels can cause ice in the cooling coils.

A Dirty Coil
If the condensation pan is dirty, then the coil might get dirty soon and end up malfunctioning the unit. This will end up causing the water to drip on the ground.

Cracked Overflow Pan
As more and more humidity gets accumulated in the coil, the water can drip down and cause an overflow in the pan.

A Clogged Condensate Drain
There are certain tubes on which these rely for the proper functioning of the drain. Any physical blockage can cause the heat pumps to be damaged by stopping the flow.
